This project is aimed at developing a green, ball-shaped robot, which can simulate different emotions and feelings, depending on the way the child handles it.

Videos

Components

Arduino

We used Arduino Mega to control both the sensors and the attuators.

Sensors

We used these sensors to recognize the child's actions:

  • Six axis accelerometer and gyroscope([1])
  • Microphone ([2])

Attuators

We used these attuators to reproduce the robot's emotions:

  • Mp3 player ([3]) and speaker ([4])
  • Two eccentric DC motors
  • RGB leds

Functions

We developed four different functions, correspondent to four emotions:

  • Happiness: when the child claps his hands, Mr. Mike reproduces a joyful music, becomes green, and vibrate to the rhythm
  • Anger: if the child shakes the robot, it becomes red and angry, vibrating strongly
  • Confusion: when the child rolls it, the robot lights the leds of different colors and screams, like it's confused and dazed
  • Sleep: when Mr. Mike is lulled, it falls asleep and snores, vibrating softly
