Project short description
The objective of this thesis is to develope a software that is used to classificate stages in human sleep. Human sleep is generally described as a succession of five recurring stages (plus waking, which is sometimes classified as a sixth stage). Sleep stages are typically monitored using a polysomnograph to collect physiological signals from the sleeping subject. So sleep staging is most often performed by a human operator, who reads and scores the polysomnogram. We want to develop an automatic continuous sleep stager which is based on probabilistic principles employing hidden Markov models (HMMs). The purpose is to automatically classificate 3 macro-stages (wake,rem,not rem).

Laboratory work for this project will be mainly performed at AIRLab.It not have potentially risky activities because it includes only the use of Matlab software.
